Dr. Joop Luten

Dr. Joop Luten is the coordinator of RTD Pillar 4, Seafood from source to consumer product. He is European Business Developer at the Norwegian Institute of Fisheries and Aquaculture (NIFA) since October 2003. He was previously head of the Department of Seafood and Aquaculture of the Netherlands Institute for Fisheries Research, a position he has had for more than 15 years. He has more then 25 years management experience in the area of seafood research. Since the first EU framework programme in the nineties he has been coordinator of a large number of EU projects within the FAR, AIR and FAIR programmes. He is manager of QIM-Eurofish, a strategic alliance between a number of European seafood research institutes in the area of quality assessment of fish. He has been organising three important international seafood conferences; in 1992, 1995 and 2002. Besides a substantial number of scientific publications he is first editor of two books: Seafood from Producer to Consumer. Integrated Approach to Quality, Elsevier Science, 1997, 686 p and Quality of Fish from Catch to Consumer: labelling, monitoring and traceability, Wageningen Academic Publishers, 2003, 460 p.
